For the last several months volunteers for the California Medical Assistance Team (CAL-MAT) have worked tirelessly combatting COVID-19. These teams of health care professionals and specialists have been deployed by the State Emergency Medical Service Authority (EMSA) to work directly with COVID patients in Southern California. No doubt relentless work, considering that recent statistics indicate over 3,000 new cases per day in Los Angeles County.
“This is a dedicated group of men and women working day and night,” praised Foundation President Sean FitzGerald, “and amongst their ranks is a WBC champion.”
Indeed, WBC USNBC Super Featherweight Champion Walter “Schoolboy” Sarnoi is one of the medical professionals presently assigned to a CAL-MAT. On Sunday, Just Boxing Foundation presented Walter and other members of the Medical Assistance Team with a donation of boxing and fitness equipment to outfit a local COVID response center.
“These workers deserve our utmost gratitude and appreciation,” Sean said, “our hope is the equipment enables them to focus on their own health and fitness when they can.”
