This isn't the typical Mother's Day for Shenandoah Brettell (Secretary, Just Boxing Foundation). Like most days recently, she'll be busy hand-sewing pleated masks for a small Facebook Business she operates. In total, Shenandoah has sewn more than 350 masks since late in March and shows no signs of slowing.
"I knew my family was going to need [the masks]," Shenandoah explained, "and then more and more people needed them."
She began selling the masks on Facebook through Designs by Doah in April. They've since grossed $1,442 on masks. On Sunday, Shenandoah announced that the proceeds will be donated to Just Boxing Foundation.
She added, "I just didn't want to profit off [the masks]. It didn't feel like a time to be opportunistic."
This donation coincides with Just Boxing Foundation's Pandemic Protection & Relief Grant. The grant is intended to aid boxers who have suffered a loss of income due to event cancellations in Los Angeles County, California. Applications for the grant will be accepted through May 15th.
